Wish Us Luck

As discussed by Matt's daycare teacher and myself, tomorrow is Day 1 of potty training.
What? You think you have read that we were potty training before.
That's right. You have. But, I have potentially the world's MOST stubborn child. And he likes his pull ups and diapers.
He knows when he has to pee and poo. In fact he will tell me when he has to pee and poo. He just refuses to do it in the potty or toilet.
And this stubborn streak is getting worse.
When we say big boys wear diapers he says "well, I'm a baby."
And on and on.
I'm thinking the toilet training may kill me.
Mike and I are well aware that this will put a strain on our marriage. So, we're hoping we get this done pretty quickly. It's all hands on deck and the diapers are being hidden.
Bedtime only - though he doesn't need to wear a diaper at bedtime. He is always dry in the morning.
I have a feeling that these next few weeks will be a battle of the wills. Fun.
We went to Walmart and stocked up on toilet paper and underwear.
I'm thinking we probably should have stopped at the liquor store too.
The one thing they told us is that we need some sort of bribery treat. Guess what we chose? GUM! I know. I think that may make us somewhat bad parents. But, it's the only thing that works. Well, that or a bottle of chocolate milk, but I'm pretty sure that there's something wrong with rewarding our preschooler with a bottle for being a big boy.

You definitely should have stopped somewhere - maybe a chocolate store for rewards for you when you don't lose your temper!

Good Luck! I am personally terrified of potty training, so I'll look forward to hearing your tips.

We've been potty training for about a year now -- off and on -- and off and on. It is frustrating, especially since she knows exactly when she has to go, but tells us after; weird because when she does do it in the potty she gets all excited, clapping, big celebration. But then she forgets again. I feel like such a delinquent mom. My son was potty trained at 11 months (for poops - not kidding) and completely by 18 months. My mom did it while she babysat while I worked. I don't know what she did to him to make it happen - perhaps I don't want to know!

My friend had a terrible time potty training with her little boy. Keep up your strength - you're gonna need it!

Good luck with the potty training! My 3 boys were all 3 before the training happened and they were all different, the second being the most difficult. He refused to use toilet at home, so I took him to the mall for 3 days in a row where they had little tiny flushing toilets (he loved them) and made him wear underwear. that was all it took! Hope it goes smoothly.

Good luck with the potty training! My Mom had the worst time potty training me! I can remember playing and thinking, "I need to go potty." But I just didn't have time. I was definitely a very stubborn kid! Hopefully your son won't be as bad as I was! I would rethink that not buying the liquor if I were you, though! ;o)

Yikes, good luck! Sounds like Matty Matt has a devilish little streak in him. I can't imagine where he gets his stubborn side from!! ;)

My friend gives her 2 year old gum, and he loves it!!! My parents are SO AGAINST the bribery treat. I don't know how i feel about it -- food as a reward is something I never wanted to do. But, EVERYONE uses treats for toilet training! In any case, GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!! I now have the monkey in pull-ups. But, I'm too preggers to do anything more about toilet training with her right now.
