Sometimes he's just so cute ...

tonight we got home, and I was feeling miserable. Matt was being whiny. So, I asked him if he wanted a treat.
I pulled out his favourite - Pringles chips.
"No, mommy. I don't want that treat. I want a good treat."
The first thing that came to mind was that we have no treats in our house. And then he explained that he in fact wanted RAISINS.
Seriously. Raisins. Not lollipops or chocolate or chips. Raisins.
And he followed that by asking for apple juice.
I do not get it!
But, whatever works.

I was at the mall the other day and saw a group of girls, I'm guessing they were 9, all eating salad. I couldn't believe it - when I was that old it seems like our preference was mcdonalds and kfc. I was wondering... is this how drastically society has changed or have these girls already developed eating disorders??

I used to know this 7-year old who was in love with salad. Count your blessings!

AWWWWESSSOME!!!! The monkey loves dried cranberries, too. We keep those in the house. She always asks for "crammies"! ;)

My extended family is always amazed by my kids' preference for fruit over cake, vegetables over chips at our family functions. I don't hesistate to teach them the difference between "healthy" snacks and "sometimes" snacks. I make the connection not to body image, but to growing strong, staying healthy and feeling well. It's awesome the Matt likes the healthy stuff... it would be an uphill battle if he didn't!

I am a firm believer in having both the healthy and the unhealthy. I hate the body image issue, so it's not about that AT ALL.
My personal experience with food has been that I often crave something so much and then don't eat it till it's bad and then when I do eat it I eat tons of it because it's forbidden.
I just want to encourage Matt not to be that way.
